VILLA PONTELLO
Luigi Pontello nasce il 13 Maggio 1829 a Ciano. È un uomo colto e distinto, che ha riposti sul suo tavolino
"La Divina Commedia" e i "Promessi Sposi".
Dopo aver imparato il mestiere di fabbro ferraio presso la bottega del Sior Bortolo Poloni, apre la sua
officina e ricopre ruoli importanti, come consigliere e assessore del Comune di Cornuda, assessore e
giudice del nuovo Comune di Crocetta e consigliere della Banca Popolare di Montebelluna.
La sua vita è attraversata da una coltre di sventura, quando in pochi anni perde il padre, la prima moglie e i due figli. Pontello cade in un profondo dolore che mina il suo sistema nervoso e di conseguenza la sua salute fisica.
Trova conforto nel matrimonio con la Signora Lucia Boschieri, che, dopo aver dedicato la sua vita alle cure della madre, fa sua la missione di porre rimedio ai disturbi di Pontello. "Quante poesie nella settecentesca villetta, piena di luce e di fiori", così scrive la Signora Francesca Boschieri di quel periodo.
Il Cavalier Pontello sopravvive alla moglie e i suoi ultimi anni sono tormentati dalla Grande Guerra, che lo costringe a lasciare la sua amata casa, alla quale non farà mai ritorno, ma passa i suoi ultimi giorni a Treviso, dai parenti, e si spegne il 23 Settembre 1919.
Non amava il titolo di Cavaliere e voleva essere chiamato Sior Luigi Pontello. Aveva studiato la notte, mentre da ragazzo lavorava in officina tutto il giorno. Si era costruito una salda cultura, che lo aveva distinto tra la gente della sua terra.
Aveva sempre nella mente le sue origini, umili, e non aveva mai dimenticato i più bisognosi, a cui donava quanto possibile.
L'ultimo atto di generosità del Sior Pontello fu quello di lasciare in testamento la sua sostanza, la sua casa, perché essa diventasse l'Orfanotrofio Femminile Pontello, che avrebbe accolto fanciulle dagli otto ai sedici anni, del Comune di Crocetta Trevigiana, orfane di entrambi i genitori o uno solamente, o in situazioni di difficoltà.
Ci volle qualche anno per i lavori di ristrutturazione e adattamento della struttura, ma l'1 Ottobre 1929 ci fu l'apertura definitiva dell'Orfanotrofio e l'ingresso delle prime quattro fanciulle.
La struttura donava a queste ragazze istruzione, insegnava loro dei mestieri e dava anche lezioni di economia domestica. Nel 1979 l'Orfanotrofio fu chiuso perché non vi erano più orfane da accogliere, mettendo la fine ad un progetto di cuore e generosità che ha dato un grande valore e significato a Villa Pontello.

VILLA PONTELLOLuigi Pontello was born on the 13th of May 1829 in Ciano. He is a cultured and distinguished man. On his coffee table you can find the "Divina Commedia" and the "Promessi sposi".
After learning the art of blacksmith at Mr Bortolo Poloni's workshop, he opens his own factory and also holds important roles, as councillor and assessor at Cornuda municipality, assessor and judge at Crocetta municipality and councillor at Montebelluna Bank.
His life is crossed by misfortune, within a few years he loses his father, his first wife and the two children.
Pontello faces a deep sorrow, which undermines his nervous system and, as a consequence, his physical health.
He can finally meet some comfort in the marriage with Madam Lucia Boschieri. After dedicating her life looking after her mother, she takes to heart Pontello's disorders. "How much poetry in the eighteenth-
century villa, full of light and flowers", this is how Madam Francesca Boschieri describes those times.
Cavalier Luigi Pontello survives his wife Lucia and his last years are tormented by the First World War, which forces him to leave his beloved house, to which he never goes back, but he spends his last days in Treviso, at his relatives'. He passes away the 23rd of September 1919.
He didn't love the title of Cavaliere and he wanted to be called Mr Luigi Pontello. He studied at night, while very young he was working in the workshop all day. He built himself a solid culture, which distinguished him among people around him.
He always kept in mind his humble roots and he never forgot the ones in need, to whom he donated the more he could.
The last act of generosity of Mr Pontello was to have his property, his house turned into a girls' orphanage, which had to be called "Orfanotrofio Femminile Pontello". It would have hosted girls between eight and sixteen years old, coming from the municipality of Crocetta Trevigiana, who lost one or two parents, or found themselves in difficult situations.
It took some years to complete the renovation and adjustment works of the building, but the 1st of October 1929 the orphanage was officially opened and the first four girls entered the building.
The facility donated education to these girls, taught them jobs and home economics. Because of lack of orphans, in 1979 the Orfanotrofio Femminile Pontello closed, putting the words "end" to a heartful and mercyful project, which gave Villa Pontello great value and meaning.
